hi mate , i have hunted pigs with dogs for the last 23 yrs with dogs and havent lost a dog yet . i have come close a few times and are probably lucky. for us here heat exhaustion is a bigger threat to your dogs , especialy in the tropics. my first pig dog died at the ripe old age of 16 , not bad for a pig dog. the main injuries are of cause caused by being ripped by tusks but wearing a wide collar or a chest plate cuts back on what could be. snakes are also a killer of dogs and for the untrained i have heard of a few that chase roos to water and are drowned by the roo when they swim in. _________________ |

they sure do, i have seen some massive injuries on dogs from roos. they bear hug them with their front legs and lean back on their tail and lift the back legs up and rake the big toe nail down the guts of the dog. it either causes massive skin rips or disembowls the dog. they also head for water and wait for a dog to swim out and because they stand tall in the water they just hold the dog under. another thing that kills dogs are wombats . if a dog goes down a hole, the wombat waits for the dog to climb over it and it pushes up and traps the dog above it until it suffocates . _________________ |

Hi yorkshire...
Unfortunatly i have lost a lot of dogs to feral pigs mainly the hard dogs that hold for to long and go down from heat as Frosti mentioned.
I live and hunt in the far nth of australia over the last 11 years it can be hot and the trophy boars are in good numbers over the last 6 years i have lost 7 dogs.
before that i had not lost a dog hunting..
1 of those was on a feral bull there a nasty peice of work..
Aslo as frosti mentioned roos can very aggressive and also drown dogs by holding them under water
those snags sound great
cheers Bert _________________ keep ya pecker hard and ya powder dry |
