any ideas what this could be??

I am looking for a bit of help/advice with Marvin. Yesterday morning Marvins nose started to bleed-it stopped reasonably quickly. However at arround 2.30pm it started to bleed quite heavily again, I therefore rushed him to the vet - with the result of his nose stopping bleeding by the time he was seen. It then started to bleed again at 8.00pm this time heavier than before, I phoned the emergency clinic and they told me to monitor it give them a call back if it got worse, and with the advice to use a cold wet tissue on it and take him out for a walk in the cold. After I got back from walking him both sides of his nose started to pour with blood very heavily apposed to just one nostrol. I therefore phoned made an emergency appointment and took him to the vets. This time when the vet seen him his nose was still bleeding heavily, they gave him some injections incase he had eaten rat poison(WARFARIN)-highly unlikely but just incase. He stayed there over night.

I phoned this morning and his nose was bleeding on/of so they wanted to examine further. They have done various tests - blood tests and checked his blood was clotting all right - his blood is clotting, however have to wait 10 days for blood test results. They cannot find a source of the blood either. I went out to see him tonight at the vets where he is getting kept for another night.

The vets seem happy enough with his general health, weight etc. He is still eating, happy as usual and doesnt seem too bothered about his nose, however there were still some dribbles of blood comming out. The vets feel that Marvin is a happy healthy dog and that it could just be a spontanious nose bleed or a burst a blood vessel.

I have to phone tommorow morning, to find out if he is ok to take home, and wheather they have discovered the source of the problem. I have been told that he will most likely be sedated to keep him calm as possible.

One other thing that has been noticed is that the back of his neck is swollen-only after getting injections last night/today. last time I took him to the vet and he got his standard injections I thought that his neck was slightly swollen after leaving, however it calmed down very quickly. I dont know if this is connected in any means, or he just has a reaction to injections?

Any advice on the bleeding nose would be greatly appreciated, as looking at the internet/reading books makes me more and more anxious, despite the vets feeling that it could be just a burst blood vessell

Jo The swelling on his neck will just be from the injections.
As for the nose bleeding problem i have never heard of it in a dog before. I alwais think of a nose as a pressure release valve, i wonder if a dog can have high blood pressure and it is just releasing through his/her nose???
