went pike fishing with me bro yesterday, he picked me up far too early, not use to getting up early now, we got with in 5 miles and it started raining and never stopped till we got 5 miles down the road on the way home, the lake was quite rough with the wind and rain so we headed for a bay with a little stream running into it i was fishing with a big siler spoon and 2nd cast caught a little jack of about 3lb then about half an hour later me bro caught another jack slightly smaller than mine, we then decided to go up the lake to the back of some island so started trolling the way up after about 10 mins got into another pike this one was about 8lb. once at the island we found a bay out of the wind to get in so had a few cast and me bro was in yet again his rod was bent doulbe this time and all i could hear him saying was oh shit oh shit hes scared of pike , after about an hour their we moved onto the otherside of the islands were i allways see the trout rising so had a do their wish id of took me fly rod with me, i only had a few nocks here neva got anything, its a good place to dead bate though theirs a deep ledge it drops down from about 4 ft to about 20 ft, moved onto one last bay and me bro again caught on the 6th cast he was fishing a big brownie type of plug, this jack was about 4lb.
yesterday was the very first time he unhooked and touched a pike hes gettin their slowly.
heres a few pics of them sorry they not any good

oh yeah what i forgot to mention was that someone left me fishing rod and me tackle bag behind on the floor so i had to go back up for it luckly it was still their when i got their |

the jacks (small pike) up to about 7lb make great eating- although the river pike taste a lot better than lake/pond fish- i do some pike clearance on some trout fisheries locally - all the pike are removed and sold on to a local french resturant-- the flesh can be very dry so best poached.steamed or shallow fried- the resturant does a very nice stuffed pike using braedcrums tomatoes bacon onions olives and herbs-- also the larger pike can be cut into steaks and marinated in olive oil and garlic before being fried or grilled-- so all in all -yes they can be good eating |
