What are peoples opinions on all the different game cover crops that are available to us now a days?
What is you favourite cover to use?
We have tried this game bird mix as a cover crop this year and it has worked very well for us, the mix seems to consist of sunflowers, mustard, maize and possibly quinoa. |

I am a massive fan of Kale for phessies and love the way it holds them.
For the partridge the Maize strips rule in my book, they love the warmth and food in there.
BUT as we are now part of the stewardship scheme on the shoot land we have to use the wild bird mix which is ok for september and possible october but then it thins out and is utter rubbish, it does not hold the birds at all  it mainly seems to be full of fat end which the rats love. we still have 3 or 4 strips of maize but since we changed to the bird mix the bag has dropped by 20-30% |

I like the proprietary mixes as they offer something right through the season, kale also holds them well in cold weather.
This year I am going to get and try some miscanthus along the sides of the game strips, it last for serveral years and is very thick so holds them well in wet/wind.
