Hi,a feeder rod is used for feeder fishing, which is when you attatch a feeder(either a wire cage or a blockend tube with holes in) to the end of your terminal tackle to carry some ground bait or free bait samples to help you to get a small carpet of bait out very near your hook bait.

A carp rod is a rod that has a heavy test curve(harder to put a bend in it)that is usually used for fishing for carp, but,it can just as well be used when fishing for pike, especially if it has a test curve of 2.5lbs - 3.5lbs.These rods are normally used in conjunctioon with a ledger system, although the more forgiving ones(2lbs)can be used when fishing with floaters(breadflake/dog biscuits)on the top of the water.

A match rod is used for float fishing usually on moving water(river)but, can be used on still waters as well, these are usually between 12ft - 14ft,which aids you when casting with a float in deeper water.

If I could give you any advice,it would be to buy a couple of fishing magazines(anglers mail or something similar)these have a lot of very easy to follow tips on not just how to fish, but, how to set up your rod and reel and your terminal tackle(hook end tackle). This would give you a proper idea of what sort of fishing you intend to do,and,it will save the tackle shop owner selling you stuff that you just don't need!!!
If you have any problems at all then you can PM me,and,I will do my best to help you..............................martin. Icon_wink_smiley75

Unfortunately there is an awful lot more to it than that, but,it is no good trying to do everything at once. You do however have to make it a easy as you can to fish with the tackle that you have at your disposal.A lot of anglers these days seem to want to make everything difficult for themselves and they also seem to complicate things unnecessarily. The best tip you will ever get is to 'KEEP THINGS SIMPLE'......especially wth your end tackle!......................martin.
