i too can vouch how good they are- but siting them is the key to success
30 years ago when i was a lad i helped a local keeper build a ladder trap we sited at the point of where four thick hedgrows met (like a crossroads)
that trap is still there still catching 30 yaers later!!! |

Are you saying a Ladder trap is the same as a Larson trap. I have worked a Larson but never heard of a Ladder.

no a ladder trap is much larger usually about 10 feet square and around 5/6 feet in hight- whereas the larson trap is a very good trap it may only trap one or two birds at a time - a ladder trap is a multi catch trap- i have heard of keepers catching over a hundred rooks/crows/magpies in a single day- one of the disadvantages of the ladder trap is its size, it isnt so versatile as the larson in respects of mobility and concealment
follow the link at the top of the page and theres a good photo of one to explain the differences |

When it's finished those short cross pieces go all the way across dividing the centra slot into small boxes. This makes it look like a 'ladder' hence the name.
There is a copy of the original MAFF plans available on a different site but I'm not sure what the protocol is for linking to other forums from here :icon_hmm: |
