| i have used everything from peanut butter to bread, chocalate, sweetcorn, personally i find that you can place a empty white carrier bag in the trap and they will go in the trap, alot of people swear by peanut butter to be one of the best baits,i have caught squirrels in traps with nothing in there at all, only the other week i checked my trap and found a blackbird in there which i released, however all the bread had gone out of the trap which i put down to more slugs than anything else,i reset the trap anyway as i knew the squirrels had found the trap as there were teeth marks on the outside of the trap which was plastic coated and the next morning there was a squirrel in there, also from previous experience i have set traps which had gone off to birds and caught squirrels in ,i find they see the trap and have to investigate it,same applies to mink as well, they got to take a look and end up geting caught, but when i do bait the traps with food it s usually bread with peanut butter on,one of the biggest problems i find when trapping with any bait in the trap is blackbirds going in my traps, they usually make a mess of there tail feathers when they are in the trap and last year in a freinds garden we released a blackbird which had gone into a livecatch trap and the next day it was back in there,we seen it was the same bird as it had plucked some of its back feathers and was bald the first day we released it,not put any traps out as i only tend to trap when the leaves are on the trees in the summer and we can no longer drey poke or hunt them with dogs and ferrets due to the leaves and not seeing the squirrels , we find this more productive, using dogs and ferrets in the winter than trapping in the winter,,i have been waiting since the last time over christmas for the chance to go back up the same farms where we went over christmas as when we was leaving we counted a good 3 squirrels on the edge of the wood, with all the weather we not had a good day to go up,fingers crossed in the next 2,3 weeks we will be having another bash on the squirrels with the dogs and ferrets and then in the summer months in this new wood i will be looking forward to setting traps keep hunting |

| sure is the one and only mad jas,the top trap is the trap that i was told would never catch a squirrel, its still up a tree on my mates farm, been there a year now, squirrels get used to it being there and then in the summer set it and they should just walk in there, wont even have to bait it just the fact that it open they will go in there ,done it a few times with other squirrel traps |

had it since it was a baby, weaned it on a bottle, you can pick it up,t dontlike being handled though ,not many pet squirrels will,i seen a few pet ones and they not the sort of animals you can hold, they want to move all the time,we do let him out from time to time and he scampers round the room,he will take nuts out of your hand, quite comical to watch ,if you put 10 nuts on the floor he will pick them up 1 by one take each one to the corner of the room and attempt to bury it,he pushed it amongst the papers,in the corner of the room, tries his best to hide it,he has a big cage with climbing apparatus in and seems quite happy, will get some recent pics of him when ilet him out next |
